We all have a vision for our lives; some more vivid than others. Whether peering into our 80’s, 50’s or 30’s, we are all imagining a richer, happier existence filled with new possibilities and goodness. But nothing significant ever happens alone – who is helping you reach the next level?<\/p>\n

Training is essential<\/strong><\/p>\n

Navy SEALs embrace the\u00a0world’s finest training to reach their potential. So do ballerinas and opera singers…as do the golfers playing this week in the Masters. Lessons, practice and training, training, training! Who is training you?<\/p>\n

April marks the mid-point for 24 emerging leaders in the 2016 Spring\u00a0Good Leadership Training<\/a> program. Each of the classmates has sharpened their Personal Visioning Worksheet and partnered with Coaching Buddies to help them reach the next level. Like every good leader before them, they\u00a0are drilling deeper into how their thoughts and emotions of the Seven Fs<\/a> are alive in their leadership: faith, family, finances, fitness, friends, fun<\/strong> and future<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Eight fantastic strategies<\/strong><\/p>\n

Perhaps the most powerful learning in the next session will be the investment each Trainee makes in applying the eight strategies we teach to help good leaders grow. We identified these strategies by studying the 54 leaders Tim Schmidt and I wrote about in the book What Really Works<\/em><\/a>:<\/p>\n

I live and work by a personal mission statement that motivates and inspires me:<\/strong><\/em> when you articulate yours, it will bring you peace and new excitement in your life.<\/p>\n

I have a plan with clear personal and professional goals for the next three years:<\/strong><\/em> our Four Year Planning Window gives structure and direction to this work. Reply here<\/a> and we will send you this tool.<\/p>\n

I use my calendar effectively to ensure time for the most important things in my life:<\/strong><\/em> the simplest learning from all of our research – what gets scheduled gets done!<\/p>\n

I regularly make the time for meditation or reflection to stay in tune with my sense of direction:<\/strong><\/em> our quiet inner minds are the source of our wisdom and courage – I wish I would have learned the power of meditation, prayer and stillness 30 years ago.<\/p>\n

Coaching buddies help each other rise to new heights in their leadership.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I have a reliable group of people who support and help me be accountable for my goals and aspirations:<\/strong><\/em> Coaching Buddies are catalytic in Training – Personal Accountability Groups can help good leaders grow personally and professionally throughout a lifetime.<\/p>\n

I effectively blend together my work life and home life:<\/strong><\/em> this was the central theme of our What Really Works book. “Blending the Seven Fs” is a better strategy than “balancing” the pressures of work and life.<\/p>\n

I am mentoring someone in ways that are satisfying for me:<\/strong><\/em> what we give out to the world, we take back in many times over. In other words, the more we teach the more we learn.<\/p>\n

Good leaders have a clear and compelling picture of who they want to be when they grow up. And they invest in a lifetime of training to help them get there.<\/p>\n
