This Beanie Baby named “Gobbles” sits proudly on the fireplace mantle in the Batz Enterprises headquarters as a whimsical reminder of the gratitude season.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Immediately after Halloween, my wife Melinda removes the spooky decorations around the house and places a silly little Beanie Baby turkey on the fireplace mantle.\u00a0 It\u2019s one of our Thanksgiving preparation rituals. I gaze at “Gobbles” in the mornings and smile.\u00a0 That was $5 well spent.<\/p>\n

Don’tcha just love Thanksgiving? You can feel the buzz building throughout the office and on the street.\u201cWhat are you doing for Thanksgiving?\u201d<\/em> we ask with vigor. Who doesn\u2019t anticipate the indulgent family feast, which ignites a midnight dash for door-busters.<\/p>\n

Many people claim Thanksgiving as their favorite holiday of the year.\u00a0 Families faithfully make the trek. College kids return. Entrepreneurs and executives actually take the day off. It’s magical how our faith comes alive around an abundant dinner table.\u00a0 Thanksgiving is one of the heartiest Seven Fs experiences\u2026if you count your finances as a blessing and remember to take a walk for fitness (or play football.)<\/p>\n

But alas, today is only Tuesday.\u00a0 We have to wait at least 48 hours until the turkey and stuffing hangover.\u00a0 But why should we wait for Thanksgiving Thursday to express our gratitude?\u00a0 People who radiate goodness are generous and grateful every day.\u00a0 It’s not as glitzy on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving to say \u201cThank You\u201d\u2026that\u2019s what makes it special. Genuine. Sincere. Unusual!?<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>How about: \u201cThank you for putting up with me\u2026I\u2019m not kidding, I mean it! I’m a piece of work. Thank you.\u201d <\/em>That may be appreciated.<\/p>\n

Or: \u201cThank you for always remembering to check the Junk email\u2026that\u2019s something I never think about and you always find important things in there. Thank you.\u201d <\/em>That might also be appreciated.<\/p>\n

And perhaps: \u201cThank you for always believing in me\u2026when things are crazy around here, you always stay loyal and positive.\u00a0 I know I don\u2019t say it enough, so I will today\u2026Thank you.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n

This Thursday it\u2019s trendy. On Thanksgiving day, gratitude is expected. Anticipated. Customary. Clich\u00e9?<\/p>\n

But on an ordinary day like today\u2026it\u2019s goodness.<\/p>\n

Good leaders recognize the special people in their lives on a daily basis and say “Thank You”<\/em> when it’s not expected or anticipated.\u00a0 And they go out of their way to make sure people feel appreciated. Everyday.<\/p>\n

Drop me a note: Who are you going to thank today? <\/strong> Then make sure you thank them.\u00a0 Today.<\/p>\n

PS: While you’re in the mood, why not write a real “thank you” note?\u00a0 Not an e-mail.\u00a0 Ink on paper…in an envelope. With a real stamp.\u00a0 When was the last time you received a real piece of mail?\u00a0 It feels good!
