{"id":28384,"date":"2012-05-22T03:01:28","date_gmt":"2012-05-22T08:01:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paulbatz.com\/?p=1962"},"modified":"2012-05-22T03:01:28","modified_gmt":"2012-05-22T08:01:28","slug":"i-need-your-help-please-reply-in-search-of-goodness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/goodleadership.com\/i-need-your-help-please-reply-in-search-of-goodness\/","title":{"rendered":"I need your help, please reply: In search of goodness\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_1964\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1964\" style=\"width: 102px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/goodleadership.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/GoodnessIcon1-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1964\" title=\"GoodnessIcon\" src=\"https:\/\/goodleadership.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/GoodnessIcon1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"102\" height=\"102\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1964\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Goodness icon from What Really Works<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As I watched the sun rise through the Hard Red Maple tree in our front yard this morning, my thoughts were on gratitude for my work.\u00a0 One of the greatest joys in my life is the wide variety of people who faithfully read and contribute to this personal leadership blog: a couple thousand and counting!\u00a0 Bankers, lawyers, teachers, scientists, coaches, consultants, accountants, marketers, engineers, construction workers, designers, home makers, entrepreneurs, CEOs, senior executives, administrators, sales people, managers, students, professors; even my wife and my Mom are all interested in our dialogue on faith, family, finances, fitness, friends, fun and future. \u00a0It\u2019s impressive and inspiring.\u00a0 I am so grateful.\u00a0 And I\u2019m asking for more help.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, I was the speaker at an executive conference and I dove into the topic of <strong><em>spreading goodness in leadership and business.<\/em><\/strong><em> <\/em>It was a particularly appropriate subject because the industry in which they work is constantly on the front page of the Wall Street Journal \u2013 it\u2019s an industry with very little trust.\u00a0 Rather, it&#8217;s largely shrouded in toxic mistrust.\u00a0 I figured this was a fitting place to spread a little goodness, right?\u00a0 One participant said to me afterward: \u201cyou rocked my soul.\u201d\u00a0 It happened so fast, I wasn\u2019t able to ask him <em>\u201cwhy, how, <\/em>or<em> what do you mean?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/goodleadership.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/FiveSunflowers.small_-2.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1965\" title=\"FiveSunflowers.small\" src=\"https:\/\/goodleadership.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/FiveSunflowers.small_-2-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a>Here\u2019s the challenge: we are developing a point of view about \u201cgoodness\u201d in business and leadership.\u00a0 The first time I wrote about this subject in an Entrepreneur Organization\u2019s blog site, one reader replied:\u00a0 <em>You sound like a Mormon. <\/em>Hmmm\u2026I\u2019m not sure if that was a compliment or not.\u00a0 What do you think?<\/p>\n<p>Please reply to me with your answers to these two questions:<\/p>\n<p>1)\u00a0\u00a0 What does \u201cgoodness\u201d mean to you in the context of leadership and business?<\/p>\n<p>2)\u00a0\u00a0 What does \u201cgoodness\u201d NOT mean\u2026\u00a0 (I\u2019ll tip my hand here\u2026I do NOT think &#8220;goodness&#8221; means being soft, weak or unprofitable.)<\/p>\n<p>The question is\u2026will you help me?\u00a0 What do you think?<\/p>\n<p>Good leaders know when to tap into the people around them for insight, encouragement and groundedness, (if that\u2019s even a word).<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m looking forward to your reply\u2026and I promise to share your collective answers.\u00a0 By sharing your thoughts, you are helping to shape a future book.
