Aspirations fuel our growth at age 4, 78 or 51. What are your aspirations?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

We all have aspirations. Big and small, near and long-term. The most common definition of “aspiration” is:\u00a0a<\/span> strong<\/span> desire,<\/span> longing,<\/span> aim or\u00a0<\/span><\/em>ambition.<\/em>\u00a0Aspirations fuel our\u00a0growth!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

March holds so much promise<\/strong><\/p>\n

Most midwesterners get fired up about the idea of “Florida in March.” My colleague Erin and her husband Mike are taking their pre-school\u00a0daughter Sally on her first\u00a0spring break vacation to visit her “nana and papa.”\u00a0\u00a0She doesn’t know it yet, but her four-year-old adventure to Florida will fuel her aspirations to explore the world!<\/p>\n

My mother is 78 and celebrating two years of living in “the city.” For her, Minnesota is better than Florida! She relocated from Spirit Lake, Iowa, to St. Paul, with\u00a0aspirations of being more involved in the lives of\u00a0her grandchildren. She is feeling young and growing by embracing the smorgasbord of culture in the Twin Cities.<\/p>\n

What are your aspirations?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Four year old Sally is all giggles about visiting her “nana and papa” in Florida. It’s a big deal for her mother, Erin, as well.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

First trip to Florida with your daughter? Stop smoking? Lose 20 pounds? Buy a new house? Build your own business? Write a book? Run a 10k? Get a new job?<\/p>\n

When we get out of bed with\u00a0a<\/span> strong<\/span> desire,<\/span> longing,<\/span> aim or\u00a0<\/span><\/em>ambition,\u00a0<\/em>we are much more willing to push ourselves\u00a0out of the mundane. We are more willing to create\u00a0honest insight\u00a0<\/em>about ourselves. We are more open to the helpful\u00a0observations of others<\/em>. We are more willing to set\u00a0stretch goals<\/em>, and we are more willing to find the courage to\u00a0step up to new challenges.\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

My aspirations?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Contractors Craig and Jerry are plotting the demolition and reconstruction of the Good Leadership Inspiration Space.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Today the demolition begins on our new learning suite in Edina, Minnesota. The centerpiece is our “Inspiration Room” where we will facilitate Insight Days for individual leaders and Lead Smart sessions for groups and teams with high aspirations.\u00a0The investment and commitment\u00a0is pushing us out of our comfort zone. In three weeks, I will be 52 years old – but our mission of\u00a0spreading goodness through leadership and business<\/em>\u00a0is making me feel young. That’s what aspirations do for middle-aged men like me.<\/p>\n
